The bong works just as well without it, but between the squid perc and the pearl diffuser downstem, you'll get bubbly smooth and cool bong hits every time! The joint on this beaker base bong is another bi-stabile 18.8mm Monumental joint, with 18.8mm > 18.8mm joints on the downstem.
